Meet our Ministry Staff

Area Director and Pastor
Corey Whittaker is our Area Director for TCMDA. After spending several decades in youth and congregational ministry, Corey joined us in 2018. He loves working with others in helping them grow in their faith, discerning God's will, and getting through the ups and downs of life. Corey has an MA in Missions and Evangelism from Trinity School for Ministry in Ambridge, PA and an MA in Professsional Counseling from Liberty.
Corey has been married to his awesome wife since 1995 and has two married children and two grandkids. He enjoys ministry and especially appreciates the people he gets to walk with in this journey of faith. He also enjoys exercising, reading, and watching the Steelers and Durham Bulls baseball.


Ministry Assistant
Joanna Murray, PA, is our part time ministry assistant. Prior to her calling to love and equip healthcare professionals and students, she cared for patients as a physician assistant for several years.
Joanna is also passionate about ministering to healthcare wives, as she has been married to her physician husband, Ryan Murray, since 2007. They have three busy teenage athletes and two crazy dogs. She enjoys just about any leisure activity, especially if it is with friends and/or family. A day by the ocean with her family and a good book would be her perfect day.

Bill Parsons
President:
Dr. Bill Parsons graduated from Dartmouth College and Dartmouth Medical School. He completed his internal medicine residency at University of Rochester-Strong Memorial Hospital, and cardiology fellowship at Duke University Medical Center. He was on the cardiology faculty at both Duke and UT-Southwestern in Dallas, after which he went into private practice at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. Bill returned to the RTP area in 2001. Since then, Bill has been practicing cardiology with Duke Cardiology of Raleigh. He has been a member of CMDA since 1978. Bill and his wife have been married for over thirty years. They have three grown children and two rescue pugs.

Craig Fowler
Vice President:
Dr. Craig Fowler is the Chief of Surgery and Chief of Opthamology at Fayetteville VAMC and Wilmington HCC. He is also the Associate Medical Director of the North Carolina Eye Bank ("Miracles in Sight"), and a tenured Associate Professor at the UNC School of Medicine.
Dr. Fowler initially came to the Triangle area in 1992 as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Duke and started hosting monthly CMDA dinner meetings in his home. In 1994, he married Dr. Amy Folwer, and they continued to host the monthly dinner meetings in their home.

Amy Fowler
Dr. Amy Fowler is an Associate Professor and the Vice Chair and Residency Director for UNC's department of Ophthalmology. She received her medical school training at UNC Chapel Hill School of Medicine. Dr. Fowler did her residency in Ophthalmology at Duke University Eye Center. She completed a fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at UNC. Amy and her husband, Craig Fowler, have hosted CMDA and TCMF events since 1993.

Steve Boyce
Dr. Stephen Boyce graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with honors in 1978. He received his medical degree with honors from the University of Florida College of Medicine in 1982 and completed his residency in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Colorado in 1988. While in Colorado, he served on the Doctor's Ski Patrol at Breckenridge, Loveland, and Winter Park ski areas.
Dr. Boyce and his wife, Tina, live in Cary with their Schnoodle, Jackson. They have three adult children. Dr. Boyce is actively involved with Kairos Prison Ministry. He has participated in mission trips to Appalachia and the Dominican Republic.

Joe Cacioppo
Dr. Joseph "Joe" Cacioppo, DO is an emergency medicine and family medicine physician with nearly 50 years of clinical experience. He is currently serving as the Chair of Community and Global Medicine and an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine (CUSOM) in Buies Creek, North Carolina.

Kimberly Cacioppo
Kimberly Cacioppo is co-founder and vice president of International Christian Resources, which leads International mission experiences. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Liberty University. She is also a Real Estate Broker with Fathom Realty.
In her spare time, she loves traveling, exploring new things and relaxing with her husband of 31 years, her beautiful family and friends. Kimberly is married to Dr. Joe Cacioppo who also serves on the council.

David Stein
Dr. David Stein is a board-certified family medicine physician and the co-owner of IFC Pediatrics (International Family Clinic) in Burlington, North Carolina. A veteran military physician, he earned his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 1989 and completed his residency at Martin Army Community Hospital. With over 35 years of clinical experience, Dr. Stein treats patients of all ages, provides bilingual care in English and Spanish, and ensures the clinic accepts Tricare insurance to support active and retired military families.

Rosemary Stein
Dr. Rosemary Fernandez Stein is a board-certified pediatrician with over 35 years of clinical experience based at IFC Pediatrics in Burlington, North Carolina. She earned her medical degree from Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Urena and is fully bilingual in English and Spanish. Beyond her clinical practice, she is affiliated with Alamance Regional Medical Center and authored the parenting book "Who Needs a Village? It's a Mom Thing".

Alan Proia
Dr. Alan Proia is Chair of Pathology at the Campbell University Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine, and Professor of Pathology and Ophthalmology at Duke University School of Medicine. Dr. Proia received his medical training at Weill Cornell Medical College and completed his pathology residency at Duke University Medical Center. He holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from The Rockefeller University. His research interests focus on the pathology and pathogenesis of diseases affecting the eye and adjacent structures.

Rosemary Herbst
Rosemary Herbst has been on the board for many years with her husband, Dr Charles Herbst, until his recent passing. Rosemary still serves and has a heart for the student side of our ministry. She is an active member at the Chapel Hill Bible Church. She loves to volunteer and has a heart for serving others.

Todd Bovenizer
Dr. Todd Bovenizer (often referred to as "Dr. Bo") is a board-certified orthodontist, international lecturer, and the CEO and co-founder of Bovenizer & Baker Orthodontics based in Cary, North Carolina. Known for his work with cutting-edge dental technology, he has operated his private practice since founding it as a startup in 2006. He has attended Shephards Church in Cary for 21 years, serving in various roles.

Shiva Kothari
Dr. Shiva Kothari is a child adolescent psychiatrist at Duke, doing mostly outpatient work with focus on depression, anxiety, and ADHD. He is married to his beautiful wife, Nikita, and has a daughter, Noelle. He and his family attend First Baptist Church in Durham, NC and help with the Young Professional Ministry. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, exercising, going to State and National Parks, and following his NY sports teams (Knicks, Jets, Rangers and Yankees).

Art Thanupakorn
Dr. Art Thanupakorn, known as "Dr. T" to his patients, is a Duke graduate and a psychiatrist specializing in sleep medicine at his private practice, Abide Psychiatry. He helps lead worship for CMDA events, as well as locally at the Summit Church-Chapel Hill. He officially joined the CMDA board in February 2026. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, rock climbing, hiking, kayaking, and playing music.
