Samaritan Health Center

A Different Approach to Medicine

Our mission is to provide comprehensive medical and dental care to the homeless and under-served at the Durham Rescue Mission and Good Samaritan Inn, partner shelters housing over 1,200 men, women and children each year. We are a group of medical professionals and other volunteers responding to Jesus’ command to love our neighbors by bringing together the resources of area churches to meet the health care needs of the homeless. The SHC seeks to provide health care that is focused on the whole person, addressing not only physical needs but also the spiritual, emotional and social factors that affect health.

Volunteering for the Samaritan Health Center

Why would a medical or dental professional be inclined to volunteer at a Christian free clinic? We aim to be a place where faith can be wed with practice and professionals are encouraged to have unhurried appointments with their patients. This means taking time to share about the most important component of our own lives. We hope to impact not only our patients but also the Christian medical community as well. One of our mottos is, “We treat but Jesus heals.” In addition to the medical visit, each person is given the opportunity to pray with a prayer partner following their appointment. One patient recently shared, “I’ve never felt so cared for by a doctor in my life!” We would love for you to be involved with and support our ministry; we are in need of various types of volunteers (Physicians, Dentists, Hygienists, PA’s, RN’s, NP’s, PT’s, Prayer Partners, etc.) and monetary donations. To sign up to volunteer, please complete the Volunteer Application Form or contact Elizabeth Brill,, for more information.
